The book is divided into two parts. The first part consists of Urdu essays and the second one contains English articles.

A senior Urdu poet: Shadab Siddiqi has come out with his new poetic collection under the title of “Dasht-e-Bay Kenaar”. Mr. Shadab Siddiqi’s family name is Feroz Qadir Siddiqi but according to Urdu poetic tradition he adopted Shadab Siddiqi as his nom de plume. Born in February 28, 1952. His father’s name was Shaikh Abdul Qadir migrated from India just after partition of sub-continent.

Shadab started writing poetry when he was studying in Sindh Madrasatul Islam in 1967. He passed M A in Urdu from Karachi alma mater. Though he is a poet and has a strong relation with literature. In spite of this he chose banking as his profession and became a seasoned and to some extent an expert banker. He was connected with the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). He retired from the job when he was working in the Finance Control Division, Trusty Wing as a grade-1 officer.

There are three write-ups in this book written by Akram Kunjahi, Ameen Jalindhri and Khurshid Baig Mailsovi about the author’s poetic  qualities and artistic efforts.  Shadab Siddiqi has four poetic collections to his credit such as ”Aatish-e-Pinha”, ”Gham Meri Jageer”, ”Jheel Kenaray” and the book under review ”Dasht-e-Bay Kenaar”.

The study of Shadab’s poetic works opine that he is a poet of full life. In the other words it may be said that neither he is a poet of only romance nor poet of existentialism. His creative effort covers the whole activities of our life including socio-economic, socio-cultural as well as socio-political events. Shadab is a good interpreter of essential ingredients of society.

That is the reason that his verses (Ghazals and Poems) have qualities of magnificent varieties. His way of expression is simple but attractive and impressive. His phrases, idioms and metaphors are meaningful and understandable. It may be expressed without any doubt that the book under review is a pretty addition to Urdu poetry. It is hoped that writers, critics and readers will herald this book open heartedly.
